The Two-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem: Models and Math-Based Heuristics

چکیده
Multi-echelon distribution systems are quite common in supply-chain and logistic systems. They are used by public administrations in their transportation and traffic planning strategies as well as by companies to model their distribution systems. In the literature, most of the studies address issues related to the movement of flows throughout the system from their origins to their final destinations. A recent trend is to also focus on the management of the vehicle fleets required to provide transportation among the different echelons of the system. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, it introduces the family of Multi-Echelon Vehicle Routing Problems, a term which broadly covers such settings, where the delivery from one or more depots to customers is managed by routing and consolidating freight through intermediate depots. Second, it considers in detail the basic version of Multi-Echelon Vehicle Routing Problems, the Two-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem, which is an extension of the classical VRP where the delivery is compulsory delivered through intermediate depots, named satellites. A mathematical model for Two-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem, some valid inequalities and two math-heuristics based on the model are presented. Computational results up to 50 customers and 4 satellites show the effectiveness of the developed methods.

A new Bi-objective model for a Two-echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem for Perishable Products with the Environmental Factor
In multi-echelon distribution strategy freight is delivered to customers via intermediate depots. Rather than using direct shipments, this strategy is an increasingly popular one in urban logistics. This is primarily to alleviate the environmental (e.g., energy usage and congestion) and social (e.g., traffic-related air pollution, accidents and noise) consequences of logistics operations. This ...
متن کاملComparing Two-Echelon and Single-Echelon Multi-Objective Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problems
This paper aims to compare a two-echelon and a single-echelon distribution system. A mathematical model for the Single-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (SE-CVRP) is proposed. This SE-CVRP is the counterpart of Two-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (2E-CVRP) introduced in the authors’ previous work. The proposed mathematical model is Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming (MIN...
متن کاملA multi-objective Two-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem for perishable products
This article addresses a general tri-objective two-echelon capacitated vehicle routing problem (2E-CVRP) to minimize the total travel cost, customers waiting times and carbon dioxide emissions simultaneously in distributing perishable products. In distributing perishable products, customers’ satisfaction is very important and is inversely proportional to the customers waiting times. The propose...
متن کاملTabu Search Heuristic for a Two- Echelon Location-Routing Problem
In this paper we tackle a two-echelon location-routing problem (2E-LRP) by a tabu search metaheuristic. The aim is to define the location and number of two kinds of capacitated facilities, the size of two different vehicle fleets and the related routes on each echelon. The proposed Tabu Search (TS) for the 2E-LRP is based on the decomposition of the problem in two location-routing sub-problems,...
متن کاملLower and upper bounds for the two-echelon capacitated location-routing problem
In this paper, we introduce two algorithms to address the two-echelon capacitated location-routing problem (2E-CLRP). We introduce a branch-and-cut algorithm based on the solution of a new two-index vehicle-flow formulation, which is strengthened with several families of valid inequalities. We also propose an adaptive large-neighbourhood search (ALNS) meta-heuristic with the objective of findin...
